Energy Transfer

SPI 0607.2.2 Interpret how materials and energy are transferred through an ecosystem.

Energy All living things need energy to survive. What are the four ways organisms are divided to obtain energy?

How energy is transferred? Energy is transferred by one organism consuming another. There are two ways to show energy transferring.

Describe a Food Chain A food chain shows how energy flows from one organism to another. (Simple chains rarely happen in nature.)

Describe a Food Chain Grass hopper Sun Grass Frog

Describe a Food Web A food web shows how energy moves through an ecosystem. (It is the overlapping of food chains.)

Describe a Food Chain Sun

The arrow show you what DIRECTION the energy is moving What about the arrow? The arrow show you what DIRECTION the energy is moving

Flow of Energy 90% of the energy is used by the organism. Only about 10% of the energy is transferred to the next level. It is called the rule of 10
