Tracheal diverticula in cystic fibrosis—A potentially important underreported finding on chest CT  Gabriela Gayer, Ifat Sarouk, Nayrouz Kanaany, Ori Efrati  Journal of Cystic Fibrosis  Volume 15, Issue 4, Pages 503-509 (July 2016) DOI: 10.1016/j.jcf.2015.12.007 Copyright © 2015 European Cystic Fibrosis Society Terms and Conditions

Fig. 1 A 28-year-old man with cystic fibrosis who had undergone lung transplant and presented with cough and recurrent bilateral pulmonary ground glass opacities. (A, B) Several tracheal diverticula in the right posterolateral aspect of the trachea (arrow) on post-transplant chest CT. Fig. 2 A 50-year-old man with cystic fibrosis. (A) Axial CT shows a 1.2cm rounded right paratracheal soft tissue mass, similar in appearance to an enlarged lymph node (arrow). (B) The tiny communication (dotted arrow) to the trachea indicates the true nature of this lesion: a tracheal diverticulum (arrow) filled with contents. Fig. 3 (A, B) A 22-year-old man was cystic fibrosis with a marked increase in size of tracheal diverticulum in a 3-year period. Axial slices at the level of T4 (A, soft tissue window; B, lung window) show a heterogeneous soft tissue mass in the right posterolateral aspect of the trachea (arrow), a tracheal diverticulum, causing mild leftward deviation of the trachea. Several tiny air bubbles are seen in its center but no clear communication with the trachea is observed. (C, D) Slices at the same level three years earlier (C, soft tissue window; D, lung window) show a much smaller diverticulum at the same site. The tiny communication (arrowhead) is clearly visualized at that time. Note cystic changes in the right upper lobe parenchyma typical of CF see on lung window (B, D).
