8th grade warm ups for week of 10-16-17

Monday (Mon.) 10-16-17 WU: 1:What does the word periodic mean? Ans: The word periodic means in a regular repeating pattern. 2: Go to next slide

Monday (Mon.) 10-16-17 2: Copy and fill in the missing information: 11 Atomic Number: Name of Element: Atomic Symbol: # of Protons: # of Neutrons: # of Electrons: Atomic Mass: Draw the Energy Levels 11 Na Sodium 22.990

Tuesday (Tues.) 10-17-17 WU: Who is Mendeleev and what did he discover about the elements? Ans: 1: Mendeleev was a Russian scientist who discovered a set of patterns and a set of properties, both chemical and physical, that applied to all elements. 2:To find these patterns he used the melting point, density, color, atomic mass, and chemical bonds. 3: As he arranged the elements based on their properties the elements lined up in order of increasing atomic mass.

Wednesday (Wed.) 10-18-17 WU: Describe 2 things in the modern periodic table that are different from Mendeleev’s periodic table. Ans: In the modern periodic table, new elements have been added as they have been discovered and the elements are arranged by their atomic number.

Thursday (Thurs.) 10-19-17 WU: List the four ways that the periodic table is set up. Ans: 1: by rows also known as periods 2: by columns also known as families 3: By state of matter 4: Type of element(metal, non-metal, metalloid, and noble gases)

Friday (Fri.) 10-20-17 Copy the periodic square and then label the 4 kinds of information about an element that can be found in a periodic square on the periodic table. Next, list the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons. Finally, draw the energy levels atomic number:7 atomic symbol: N name of the element: Nitrogen atomic mass: 14. 0067 ***next slide

Friday (Fri.) 10-20-17 # of Protons: 7 # of Neutrons: 7 # of Electrons: 7
