Promotion Progression NC-956, Wilkes Central High School (revised Nov 2016)

Cadet Airman Basic to Cadet Airman A Successful Graduate of Freshmen JROTC Orientation Week (“Boot Camp”) will advance to Cadet Airman rank (refer to this when * appears). The following applies to Boot Camp graduates only (most of these requirements will be part of the Boot Camp final exam): Task/Knowledge Requirements: Successfully complete NC-956 Airman Test Know the first 10 steps of the 30-step drill routine Know how to identify JROTC ranks and insignias Know 'reporting in and out' procedures Know/Properly perform 'facing' movements Perform community service work - two hours

Cadet Airman Basic to Cadet Airman Apply this to cadets entering JROTC at the start of a semester (without the “Boot Camp” opportunity) Minimum Requirements: No ALC nor OSS; A "D" or better in JROTC No unexcused tardies nor absences No unexcused 'failures' to dress out in AF PT gear nor to wear appropriate uniform on ULD Task/Knowledge Requirements: Successfully complete NC-956 Airman Test Know 15 steps of the 30-step drill routine Know how to identify JROTC ranks and insignias Know 'reporting in and out' procedures Know/Properly perform 'facing' movements Perform community service work - four hours

Cadet Airman to Cadet Airman First Class Minimum Requirements No ALC nor OSS in promotion consideration period A "C" in JROTC No unexcused tardies/absences nor proper uniform wear Task/Knowledge Requirements: Successfully complete NC-956 Airman First Class test Know AF Core Values, Cadet Honor Code and Mission Identify grade insignias of AF enlisted and officers Know Squadron chain of command from Squadron to Flight Commanders and titles/roles of NC 956 staff positions Know 30-step drill sequence (exception below*) Boot Camp” graduates can instead apply the following: Know 15 steps of 30-step Perform another 4 hours comm service/extra-curr. events Participate in a JROTC fundraising event

Cadet Airman First Class to Cadet Senior Airman Minimum Requirements Maintain a "C" in JROTC, a “D” or better in other classes No unexcused tardies/absences; no unexcused/non-made up ULD’s nor PT ‘dress out’; no ALC nor OSS Task/Knowledge Requirements: Successfully complete the NC-956 Senior Airman test Know the phonetic alphabet Be able to properly state all 30 commands of 30-step drill Know how to establish goals Know AF organizational structure, from flts to MAJCOMS" Demonstrate to others the application of AF Core Values Give/Instruct, proper facing commands to another cadet Complete another 4 hrs of comm service/extra-curricular events Participate in a JROTC fundraising event

Cadet Senior Airman to Cadet Staff Sergeant Minimum Requirements A “B” in JROTC Maintain a 2.0 GPA in all courses No unexcused tardies/absences, missed or non-made up ULD days , PT ‘dress out’ failures; no ALC nor OSS Task/Knowledge Requirements: Successfully complete the NC-956 Staff Sergeant test Know & be able to sing the Air Force Song Know & demonstrate to other cadets how to establish goals Know and understand application of AF Core Values Drill a 3x3 flight using the STD 30 step drill sequence as a flight commander (Semester Drill Evaluation - AS1, Sem 2: Drill Evaluation) Know and recite the chain of command from POTUS to Flight CC Participate in fundraising events for JROTC; raising at least $50 since the prior promotion Complete Promotion Fitness Examination with min score of 75% 16 hours of community service/extra-curr. activities on record

Cadet Staff Sergeant to Cadet Technical Sergeant Minimum Requirements A “B” in JROTC Maintain a 2.0 GPA in all courses No unexcused tardies/absences; PT ‘dress out’; no ALC nor OSS Task/Knowledge Requirements: Successfully complete the NC-956 Technical Sergeant test Know and lead singing of the Air Force Song Know and sing one Jodie for leading a flight Perform open ranks inspection of a flight Drill 4x4 flight using 30 step drill sequence within confined area Know and recite the chain of command from POTUS to Flight CC Know the Air Force Mission and birthday 20 hours of community service/extra-curricular activities on record Participate in fundraising, minimum of $100 since prior promotion Complete Promotion Fitness Examination with a 80% score Instruct AS1 cadets on prior promotion knowledge requirements

Cadet Technical Sergeant to Cadet Master Sergeant Minimum Requirements An “A” in JROTC and a 2.5 GPA in all courses No unexcused tardies/absences; PT ‘dress out’; no ALC nor OSS Task/Knowledge Requirements (all prior rqmts + the following:) Successfully complete the NC-956 Master Sergeant test Know and sing two Jodies for leading a flight Know and demonstrate Honor/Color Guard presentation drill Know the Air Force Airman's Creed Know and explain benefits of AFJROTC membership Know details of WINGS and processes for Logistics & Personnel Perform in an APT presentation at the Middle School Successfully manage a Cadet Corps project (goal or event) Complete Promotion Fitness Examination with a 85% score Four hours service within the nine weeks prior to promotion eligibility Recruit one quality cadet for JROTC who has promotion capability Lead (chair or co-chair) person for a fundraising campaign

Cadet Master Sgt to Cadet Senior Master Sgt Minimum Requirements An “A” in JROTC and a 2.5 GPA in all courses No unexcused tardies/absences; PT ‘dress out’; no ALC nor OSS Task/Knowledge Requirements (all prior rqmts + the following:) Successfully complete the NC-956 Senior Master Sgt test Create one Jodies for leading a flight Instruct cadets in HG/CG drill and Rifle Drill Team, 40 step routines Command a flight in the 40 step drill sequence Communicate benefits of AFJROTC membership Know AFJROTC organizational data (# units, cadets, years, etc) Instruct other cadets in processes for Logistics & Personnel Lead two APT presentations at middle &/or elementary schools Manage a Cadet Corps project (goal or event) & its continuity Complete Promotion Fitness Examination with a 90% score Recruit two new quality cadets who have promotion capability Chairperson for a fundraising campaign, creating continuity product Four hours service within the nine weeks prior to promotion eligibility

Cadet Senior Master Sgt to Cadet Chief Master Sgt Minimum Requirements An “A” in JROTC and a 3.0 GPA in all courses No unexcused tardies/absences; PT ‘dress out’; no ALC nor OSS Task/Knowledge Requirements (all prior rqmts + the following:) Successfully complete the NC-956 Chief Master Sgt test Conduct periodic review and rewrite/update of Cadet Guide Can explain benefits of AFJROTC to counselors and teachers Instruct other cadets in WINGS Complete Promotion Fitness Examination with a 95% score Groom staff officers in advancement of JROTC knowledge Aid Chief of Standards and Evaluation in assessment of staff roles and performance within their operational areas Four hours service within the nine weeks prior to promotion eligibility
