Solving Multiplication Equations

Warm Up Solve each equation using the scale or bar method. 1. 5x = 60 2. 8x = 64 3. 2x = 434.68 4. 4x = 32 x = 12 x = 8 x = 217.34 x = 8

Solving Multiplication Equations

Ex. 1: Jim has 25 pieces of candy to share with his four friends Ex. 1: Jim has 25 pieces of candy to share with his four friends. How many pieces of candy will each of them get if he divides the candy among his friends and himself evenly? To figure out 5 times what equals 25 you must do the inverse or opposite operation. So divide both sides of the equation by 5. 5f = 25 5 5 f = 5

Ex. 2: Solve 7x = 28. 7x = 28 7 7 x = 4

Ex. 3: John has $42.36. He is saving half the money and spending the other half. How much money is he saving? 2m = $42.36 x = $21.18 2 2

Practice Solve 3x = 81 6y = 318 9r = 72 Haley divides 12 fish sticks evenly between her two cats. How many fish sticks does each cat get? x = 27 y = 53 r = 8 6

Closure Write a word problem for the equation. Solve the equation. 4x = 48 12
