Review of Radicals and Quadratic Equations NOTES 9.1 Review of Radicals and Quadratic Equations

Simplify Radical Expressions: Look for largest perfect square that goes in evenly. = = 4

Try: 1. (3 )2 = 3 3 = 63 2. = = or 3

Quadratic Equations Method 1: Solve for x (remember you will have ± in your answer) x2 + 9 = 25 x2 = 16 x = ± 4

Method 2: Factoring x2 + 9 = 25 x2 - 16 = 0 (x-4)(x+4) = 0 (factor) x-4 = 0 or x+4=0 x = ± 4 Notice that with either method you get the same answer.

Try this one: (5 )2 + ( )2 25 • 3 + 5 75 + 5 80 x2 = x2 = x2 = x2 = x = x=
