Our Rules and Expectations Classroom rules reflect the expectations that are school wide. Arcola Elementary School has adopted the PBIS program and the expectations for Arcola are: 1. R – respectful 2. O – on task 3. A – acting safely 4. R – responsible DRAGON Bites-Positive Rewards in the Classroom and Whole School Rewards

Our Grading Policy Good grades for work completed on time and reflecting effort. Homework is reviewed and checked however not used for assessment. Report cards are based on class participation, group work, tests, quizzes, and projects. Tests, projects, and labs may receive more than one grade. Late work will be accepted without penalty when the student has been absent.

Grades This year you will again be able to log into Parentvue and view your child’s grades and assignments.

Thursday Folders Go home every week with important information and completed assignments. Review work with your child. Please return on Friday.

Interim reports Sent home at the mid-term. Sent if the child is getting a grade lower than a C, has problems completing homework or class work, has difficulty with behavior, or drops more than one letter grade from the previous report card.

Conferences You may contact your child’s homeroom teacher to sign up for a conference. If it is necessary to meet with one of your child’s other teachers, then this should be arranged with that teacher separately. At your conference information from your child’s other teachers will be shared.

Website Homework Project resources Nine week plans Newsletters Practice resources and websites http://www.lcps.org/arcola

Reminders….. Re-Link Harris Teeter Cards Join the PTA Please do not send medications into school with your child. Please do not send your child to school with a temperature. Our 1st Field Trip will be in September to Camp Highroad for team building. Information will be forthcoming.

How can you help your child be successful? 1. READ EVERY DAY!!  You can read to your child, and encourage him or her to read to you…either way…READ!!!  ☺  2. CREATE A CONSISTENT AFTER SCHOOL ROUTINE.  Remind your child to unpack his/her backpack and show all work to you!  This is his/her chance to show off their hard work.  3. BE POSITIVE!!  ☺  Always speak in a positive tone about school, learning, and your child’s teacher.    4. ENCOURAGE! Give your child the opportunity to excel in all areas of academics.  5. REST!  Be sure your child is getting plenty of rest each night and is ready for school each day.  6. TEACH PRIDE!!  Teach your child to be responsible for his/her actions and take pride in all they do!    7. STAY INVOLVED!!  Make it a point to ask your child about his/her day at school! Ask what good or bad things happened at school.    8. REMEMBER…your child is not you and will not have the same academic or social outcomes you did in school.    9. COMMUNICATE…Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

BYOT Bring your own technology to school Students may bring their electronic devices in 5th grade; they should be kept in their backpacks. Teachers will determine when they are used for projects.
