It is located on Liberty Island in New York City. Where is it Located? It is located on Liberty Island in New York City.

History Frenchman Edouard de Laboulaye first proposed the idea of a monument for the United States in 1865. The Statue was named “Liberty Enlightening the World” and was a joint effort between America and France.

Tourists Information Its open everyday except for December 25th. Liberty Island was called Bledloe’s Island. In 1878 in Paris the head of The Statue of Liberty was displayed in the World Fair. The Statue of Liberty’s official name is “Liberty Enlightening the World”.
