Safely Cut Food Method A With your fingertips curled back, grip food with your thumb and three fingers. Keep the tip of the knife on the cutting board, and lift the knife’s heel. Glencoe Visual Showcase

Safely Cut Food Method A Use the second joint of your index finger as a guide to slice with a smooth, downward motion. As you slice, move your thumb and fingers down the length of the food. Glencoe Visual Showcase

Safely Cut Food Method B Use the same grip. Use the second joint of your index finger as a guide. Lift the tip of the knife and cut by moving the knife slightly toward you and down through food. Glencoe Visual Showcase

Safely Cut Food Method B Use your wrist to move the knife. Do not apply too much downward pressure. Your wrist is the support. The knife’s weight should do most of the work. Glencoe Visual Showcase
