Understand how you can use or adapt the provided peer mentor training session plans to support your peer support programme 2. Understand particular challenges which may come up delivering the sessions in your setting and have considered how you might differentiate content.

Introduction to training your peer mentors Workshop 3-How to train your CYP as peer mentors Introduction to training your peer mentors Having recruited a group of peer mentors in your setting and worked with them to co-design your peer mentoring programme. We recommend that you train your peer mentors to have a core knowledge and skill-set. Regardless of how your peer mentors will be supporting other CYP, we would recommend that they are trained to have a core set of knowledge.

Core knowledge any peer mentor requires. Workshop 3-How to train your CYP as peer mentors Core knowledge any peer mentor requires. Understanding of the peer mentor role and who they can support. Understanding that at the core of mentor role is being able to build a relationship with the CYP they are supporting and how they might do this. Understanding that they have the opportunity to support the CYP they are working with to make positive changes and how they might do this. Understand the limitations of the peer mentor role and who they can go to for help.

Introduction to peer mentor training sessions Workshop 3-How to train your CYP as peer mentors Introduction to peer mentor training sessions We provide: 3 x 1 hour training sessions for you to use or adapt to train peer mentors in your setting. Two versions- One for 10-13 yr olds and the other for 14+. Supporting resources and a Powerpoint slide-set for each version can be found in the Supporting document. This morning, we will quickly review the session plans best suited for your setting. There will be opportunity for Q+A regarding each session.
