Presentation transcript:

Good afterlunch! Please get out your documents and the questions/work you have prepared. Please get out your Socratic Seminar Assignment sheet. Get out your pre-seminar task response. If you don’t have one, write it right now: “Based on your reading of these sources, how good of a judge was Abraham Lincoln in determining when and how to seek emancipation of the slaves?”

Seminar Reminders It is your responsibility to help move the discussion forward – ask questions, clarify, respond appropriately. Comments & opinions should be grounded in the text. Actively listen. Do not speak unless it is kind and helpful to the discussion. Actively participate even when you are not speaking – listen, take notes, prepare. Respect your classmates and the process. See the rubric.

Written Responses Major points made or questions asked. My thoughts, questions, and responses.

GQ#2 - How did emancipation impact the war? What about Lincoln and/or the process toward emancipation did you find most interesting in these documents? Or most challenging? How did emancipation impact the Civil War? How good of a judge was Abraham Lincoln in determining when and how to seek emancipation of the slaves? When is the right time to do what is right? Why is change so difficult – even when it is right? Did the Emancipation Proclamation end or intensify conflict?

Emancipation in 1863 Effects???

Post-Seminar Task Part 1. Self-Assessment: How prepared were you? How well did you participate? How could you improve?   What did you like about the seminar? What did you not like? Explain. Part 2. Reflection: How did the seminar influence your thinking on emancipation and/or on Lincoln? Did it change anything from your pre-seminar task answer? Was there something you didn’t get to share, or wish you had contributed?
