Sketchbook #4 Read the article on Copyright Protection Law on the website today and answer the following. (15 points) 1. What can be copyright protected? 2. When does copyright protection begin? 3. Do you have to register your work with the U.S. Copyright Office to actually claim ownership? 4. How can you prove your digital art (jpeg, png, gif) was created by you? 5. How do you write a copyright statement? What does it include? 6. What does the date on the copyright statement refer to? 7. How long is intellectual and artistic property protected by copyright? 8. Is the Internet public domain? 9. "Ignorance of the Law does not make one exempt from compliance thereof." Explain what this quotation means. Next, explain what this quotation means for you as a student in Imaging class. 10. What can you do to obtain permission to use someone else’s copyrighted material? After you obtain permission can you claim copyright yourself? 11. Can original fonts and wingdings have a copyright? Why or why not? 12. Can you claim ownership/copyright of anything taken from public domain or royalty free websites/stock photo sites? Why or why not? 13. If you manipulate a stock photo from a royalty free site, can you claim ownership? Why or why not? 14. Explain what is “fair use”. 15. When you use someone else’s material/property in fair use what do you have to do, otherwise you have committed plagiarism?
