Visual impact is a huge component of retail merchandising. Visual impact is a huge component of retail merchandising. Customers entering a store are greatly influenced by the visual information they gather in the first split second. Customers entering a store are greatly influenced by the visual information they gather in the first split second. One simple visual element, such as color, can catch a shoppers attention and also greatly affect their mood. While individual creativity and artistic flair play a major role in merchandise displays, here are some important things that you should consider…

1. Good displays tell a story or have a theme.

2. Try portraying your products in use.

3. Keep things simple & dont clutter your display

4. Include props or accessories to support/compliment main item

5. Use motion/line to direct eye or focus attention

6. Asymmetrical placement creates interest

7. Colour helps set mood and feeling

8. Have a focal point/main garment that stands out. Other items only support focus item and dont take attention away from main item.

10. Lighting should accent focal point and help create desired mood.

11. Background should compliment products. Items should stand out from background.

12. Brainstorm and always have a plan in mind before starting!

13. Dont be afraid to be a little different, creative, unique!
