Revisiting Theme Beowulf

Remember the 6 traits of a theme?? It should be expressible in the form of a statement with a subject and a predicate. It should be stated as a generalization about life. The generalization must not be larger than what is justified by the story. Theme is the central and unifying concept of a story. There is no one way to express theme. Avoid cliches.

On your own: Brainstorm a list of ideas that come to mind about the meaning of Beowulf. Choose one idea, and expand it into a theme statement. Be sure it meets the 6 traits of a theme!!

Next With your elbow partner. . . 1) Compare your statements. 2) Choose one or work together to create a collaborative statement.
