Your Title Here Sponsor Logo Graphic Placeholder Changing the Template Student 1 (Major), Student 2 (Major), Student 3 (Major) Advisor: Professor Firstname Lastname (Department) Sponsor Logo Changing the Template This poster is only a template. The size of your poster is not mandatory. You can change the poster size by going to the “DESIGN” tab and then selecting “Slide Size.” Customizing the size before you begin adding information to your poster will ensure that you do not have to make changes to it later that may negatively impact its look. You can move these boxes around, change colors, and headings. Customize this template to what you want to feature about your work. Images and Graphics Graphic Placeholder Images, charts, and other graphics can really help make your poster more engaging. The average viewer of a poster will be standing 2 to 3 feet away and will spend less than 3 minutes looking at your posters. Images and graphics will draw people in to your poster. Images and graphics need to be of a high enough quality to represent your research well. When you find images, logos, graphics, etc., on the internet, they are often sized for webpages. These images may not have enough pixels for printing. Please look at your images and graphics at 100% magnification to ensure they look right with this template. Photo or graphic caption Fonts It is better to insert you text as text boxes rather than use the shape as the text box. You will find “Text Box” on the “Insert” tab. Poster Options Graphic Placeholder Posters will be printed on paper that is 24”, 36”, or 42” wide. One of your dimension must fit within these dimensions. You will also have to select whether you want to print on matte or glossy. The staff at the ATC will try to help you with these decisions. Graphic Placeholder Using text boxes will allow you to place your text around objects and picture. Using text boxes will allow you to place your text around objects and picture. Reviewing Finally, use spell check to ensure you have no errors. Also, please look at your poster inch by inch at 100% size. This will allow you to see what your poster will actually look like when you print. Access this feature by going to View>Zoom. The ATC will review your poster one more time at drop off to ensure that it will print correctly. Try to use common fonts like Arial, Cambria, or Verdana. These fonts will almost certainly be consistent across a variety of computers. Try to keep the size and the style of your font consistent throughout your poster for readability. Backgrounds . You can change your background. To change the background color, go to Design->Background. You can change it to a different color or insert a textured graphic. Elements like the colored bars in this template can be change in the slide Master (see View>Slide Master). You can also make shapes within your poster semi-transparent to show a background picture. Right Click on the shape to activate a pop-out menu. Select “Format Shape.” Under “Shape Options” select the icon that looks like a bucket. Select the “Solid Fill” and you can access the “Transparency” setting. Ensure that all your boxes are set to the same degree of transparency. Saving Your Poster The WPI Logo Once you have reviewed your poster, please save it to a thumb drive. When you bring it to the ATC, we will review the poster one last time with you. We will keep your thumb drive while we print. You should embed your fonts when saving. Select the “Save As” function on the “File” tab. Select your thumb drive and next to the “Save” button, you will see a drop down titled, “Tools.” Choose “Save Options.” At the bottom, you will see an option to “embedded fonts.” Please embed with all the characters, this will allow us to edit your poster. Use of the WPI logo is delineated in the University’s “Visual Identity Guide.” The WPI logo cannot be altered in any way. The ATC will change your poster to meet these guidelines. When using the logo on a dark background you will need to use the version that has the WPI letters in white. The WPI logo should have an area of isolation around it equal to the height of the letter “W”. This means that there can be no text within that area of isolation or other logos near it. The “Visual Identity Guide” can be found here: https://www.wpi.edu/offices/marketing/identity_guide/
