Singapore Math Bar Model Drawings

Why do Bar Model Drawings? Students learn the process of how to solve word problems independently The step-by-step process allows students to dissect information Students can organize their thoughts

Teacher Thoughts on Step-by-Step Model Drawing Rewriting the questions as statements helps students understand what they are solving. Students don’t focus on getting the answer– the process is first, then getting the answer. The Part-Part-Whole relationship is invaluable! Whole Part Part

Teacher Thoughts on Step-by-Step Model Drawing It forces students to think instead of “spitting back” an answer. The perseverance skills taught with model drawing are what students need on the EOG to successfully answer word problems.

Student & Parent Thoughts on Bar Model Drawing Students I like drawing a bar model because it helps me understand what I’m doing. I like drawing a bar model because I can write an Answer Sentence. Parents It helps my child attack word problems in a way that they could not before.
