Variables and Expressions

Vocabulary Variable--A symbol, usually a letter of the alphabet, such as the letter n, that is used to represent a number. Algebraic Expression (AKA--Variable Expression)--An expression, such as n – 5, that consists of one or more numbers and variables along with one or more arithmetic operations. (Note: No equal sign) Numerical Expression -- An expression, such as 10-4, that consists of only numbers and one or more arithmetic operations Constant--A specific number whose value does not change

n – 7 + r What kind of expression is this? Algebraic Expression or Numerical Expression Name a variable. What is the 7 called in this expression?
