Camera What do you see on a long shot? What do you see on a close up? Whose eyes are we looking through? How do we see different characters’ points of view? How does the camera help to tell the story?

Colour What colours can you see? When do the colours change? What do the colours tell you about the time of day? Why do the colours change? What are the main colours? What would the impact of black and white be?

Character Who is the main character? Who is telling the story? What does the main character look like? How do they speak and what do they say? How can you tell what the characters are thinking and how they are feeling? How do they behave? How do they react to others? Who is the most interesting character?

Setting Where does the action take place? Why is it set here? When does the setting change? How does this affect the story? How might the story have changed if the setting was different?

Sounds What sounds can you hear? Is there any music? How does the music make you feel? How does the music set the mood? Are there any moments of silence? What effect does this have?

Story What happens in the story? (Build-up, problem, resolution) What are the important events? Where does it take place? Who is the story about? How does time move in the story? What might happen next? Does this remind you of any other stories?
