Class Notes 2 Natural Selection

I. Natural selection Darwin’s most famous idea to explain how species evolve. Based on artificial selection

II. How it works In any population, there is variety. ex: a population of green and brown beetles.

2. Some organisms survive longer than others. Ex: Birds eat green beetles more than brown.

3. Those that live to reproduce will pass on their traits through heredity. Ex: The surviving brown beetles have brown baby beetles.

4. Over time the population will be different. Ex: Eventually all beetles are brown.

Summary Show the steps of natural selection in a picture.
