Data Practices and Perspectives of Atmospheric and Engineering Faculty Christie Wiley Engineering Research Data Services Librarian Grainger Engineering Library November 2016

Purpose of this Study The growth of data intensive science and the introduction of federal grant agency data management and sharing plans has changed the way science is conducted (Tenopir et al, 2014). This has led academic libraries to establish programs to assist researchers in the management of research data, including providing critical infrastructure, storage resources and support in the area of data management plans, curation and stewardship (Heidorn, 2011; Tenopir, 2011; Borgman et al, 2015).

Current research projects Funding sources Type of data Who is interested in data and how is it used Disciplinary repository Data sharing Finding data Awareness of current literature Awareness of data management services/campus repository Agency Review panel experiences Struggles with data

Results Funding Sources Data Type and Description DMPs Commercial Data and Storage Preservation and Value

Results Data documentation Awareness of data management and preservation services Campus/Disciplinary repository use Experiences as DMP reviewers Challenges

Implications and Conclusions Examining data sharing practices and attitudes of faculty Informing data services Needs of researchers Next steps
