UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI EXTENSION Title of Research Study—The title should be readable from 10 feet away and should attract interest. No longer than two lines. Presenter name, collaborators INTRODUCTION Briefly describe your research and make it interesting. Strive to keep introduction to 150 words or less. Avoid technical jargon. Graphics will help viewers understand the research better than text will. General tips: Don’t use more than two fonts on your poster. Minimum text size is 16 pt. Headings should be between 30 and 60 pt. No more than 11 to 12 words per line of text. Use two or three colors; too many can be distracting. RESULTS First, provide a summary by explaining the general aspects of data collected and if the procedure worked. Then, present data analysis that supports your hypothesis. Refer to charts or images. Use infographics to show data visually so reader can understand quickly. This should be your largest section at about 200 words. CONCLUSIONS Explain the major result and briefly clarify if your hypothesis was supported. Tell viewer why this is interesting and state why it is important. Suggest continuing research that will build on the study, if appropriate. (Results continued) Caption REFERENCES Follow the format of the conference you are attending. Briefly explain photo or graphic. Photos should be at least 300 ppi to ensure high-quality when printed. MATERIALS AND METHODS Explain the process used in your research: Use active tense. Use bullet points for easy reading. Avoid long numerical formulas. Use bold for emphasis; avoid capitals and underlining. Use figures and flow charts to illustrate design, if possible. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Thank individuals for specific contributions and mention who provided funding. Keep this section short. Fewer than 40 words is recommended. Do not use any other logo or graphic mark other than the MU Extension logo. Explain photo or graphic. Make sure the details on graphs and photos can be viewed from six feet away. Unit | Program Don’t clutter the top of your poster with logos. Put them at the bottom.
