Mitosis

Cell Division Interphase Mitosis Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase Cytokinesis

Interphase Most of the cell cycle is spent in interphase G1, S, G2 DNA is in the form of chromatin Cell is preparing to divide (replicates DNA)

Prophase DNA condenses to form chromosomes (made of 2 sister chromatids) Nuclear membrane breaks down Centrioles move to opposite sides of the cell and form spindle fibers

Metaphase Spindle fibers attach to chromosomes Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

Chromatids are pulled to opposite ends of the cell Anaphase Chromatids are pulled to opposite ends of the cell

Telophase Nuclear membrane begins to reform Chromosomes start to uncoil into chromatin Spindle fibers fall apart

Cytokinesis Cytoplasm is divided into two identical daughter cells Animal cells Cell pinches in half, forming a cleavage furrow Plant cells Cell plate forms between two nuclei

Mitosis Asexual reproduction Results in two identical daughter cells
