MATH 8 – UNIT 1 REVIEW

12/12/16 1. What would be the new coordinates of (2,4), (3,5), (4,3) and (3,2) if you graphed them on a coordinate plane and rotated them 90° counter clockwise about the origin? What quadrant is the new figure in? The new coordinates would be: (-3,4), (-5,3), (-4,2), (-2,3) in quadrant II. 2. What is the value of y in the figure below? What is measure of the angle 4y + 16? 4y + 16 + 64 = 180; 4y + 80 = 180; 4y = 100; y = 25; measure of the angle is 116.

TRANSFORMATIONS

Reflect the triangle over the y-axis and give the coordinates of the reflected image. (9,9) (5,1) (3,6)

Center of Rotation

What is the angle of rotation for the blades of the windmill? 90 degrees

If point A is (-19,7), give the ordered pair of A rotated 180 degrees.

A triangle has the following vertices: A(-2, 3) B(-5, -7) C(6,8) A triangle has the following vertices: A(-2, 3) B(-5, -7) C(6,8). Rotate triangle ABC 90 degrees and give the new coordinates. A’(-3,-2) B’(7,-5) C’(-8, 6)

Describe a translation transformation When you can slide the whole design to a position in which it looks exactly the same as it did in the original position.

Give the ordered pair of point G(-3, -12) translated by (x+4,y+8).

Given points R(18, -7) and R’(11, 11), determine the rule that point R was translated by to get R’ Be able to explain how you got your answer Take the coordinates of the copy minus the coordinates of the original R’(11,11) 11-18= -7 R(18, -7) 11- -7= 17 Translated by (x-7, y+17)

NAME THE TRANSFORMATION REFLECTION

Contrast similar and congruent figures Similar figures are the same shape, but not the same size Congruent figures are the same size and shape

Match the types of TRANSFORMATIONS to the following terms: Slide Turn Flip Slide – Translation Turn – Rotation Flip- Reflection

(-9, 9) = ‘(-4, 3) (-5, 1) = ‘(0, -5) (-3, 6) = ‘(2, 0) Translate the figure below by (x+5, y-6) and list the ordered pairs of the copy image. (-9, 9) = ‘(-4, 3) (-5, 1) = ‘(0, -5) (-3, 6) = ‘(2, 0)

Find the scale factor from the first figure to the second figure of the scale drawings below-use the dimensions given: 6 3 2 1 3 4 k = 1/3 3 4 k = 4/3

ANGLE MEASURES

129° - they are corresponding angles

Which angles are alternate interior angles?

At a train station, Track B crosses Track A and Track C, which are parallel to each other. Track A and Track B intersect at an angle of 150° as shown. What is the measure of the Angle x, formed by the intersection of Track B and Track C? 30°
