Why would I want to get my high school diploma?

Over their their lifetime, a high school dropout earns, on average, about $260,000 less than a high school graduate.

Every year, 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States. That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 6,000 a day.

More career choices, or to qualify for work promotions

Dropping out is is no longer an option Dropping out is is no longer an option. It's not just quitting on yourself, it’s quitting on your country – and this country needs and values the talents of every American - Barack Obama, 2/24/09

Each new high school graduate yields $209,000 in net economic benefit through increased government revenues and lowered government spending.

People with higher levels of education are less likely to experience unemployment

Set an example for your children or family

On average, a high school graduate lives nine years longer than a dropout and is less likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, and illnesses

75 percent of state prison inmates and 59 percent of federal inmates are high-school dropouts. - High-school dropouts are 3.5 times more likely than graduates to be incarcerated.

If 33 percent of dropouts graduated from high school, the federal government would save $10.8 billion each year in food stamps, housing assistance, and temporary assistance for needy families.
