SYNOPSIS OF FHI360 NUTRITION PROGRAM IN THE NORTHEAST 11/30/2018

Introduction Family Health International (FHI 360) is a non-profit human development organization with experts in health, education, nutrition, environment, economic development, civil society, gender equality, youth, research and technology, and humanitarian assistance. Currently implementing USAID (OFDA)-funded Integrated Humanitarian Assistance in North-East Nigeria (IHANN) 11/30/2018

FHI 360 Presentation 3 sites: Dikwa, Banki and Ngala. The nutrition program is aimed at reducing infant and child morbidity and mortality by improving the nutritional status of children U-5. 11/30/2018

ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED In-patient therapeutic feeding Centre/Stabilization Centre Community outreaches/MUAC screening/Active case finding Infant and Young child feeding Planned Out-patient therapeutic program (To commence March) 11/30/2018

Stabilization centre Fhi360 established three (3) stabilization centre across 3 fields namely Banki, Dikwa and Ngala. Fhi360 started running stabilization centre in Dikwa, then subsequently in Banki and Ngala. Total admission = 220 admission Recovery rate:98%, Death rate:1%, recovery rate:1%. 11/30/2018

Community Mobilization Fhi360 conducts MUAC screening, active case finding for malnutrition, referral and follow up through its Volunteers and CHWs. Equally, we work closely with other implementing partner to ensure that identified SAM are adequately referred and followed up. Total children screened = 44607 (SAM:1099 MAM:11451, Healthy: 32057) Proxy SAM: 2.5%, Proxy GAM: 25.7% 11/30/2018

OUT-PATIENT THERAPEUTIC PROGRAM To kick-off fully by march. All Nutrition Staff across the 3 field have been trained on OTP Sites for the implementation of the OTP have been identified Fhi360 is working closely with other partners to ensure that OTP activities is not duplicated All procurement with regards to OTP program have been procured. Fhi360 is currently waiting for the signing of the PCA document to commence the OTP. 11/30/2018

Infant & Young Child Feeding. Fhi360 supports IYCF activities via MtMSG and IYCF corners Fhi360 established IYCF care group across the 3 field (50 care group/field) One on one counselling/IYCF corners holds at all fhi360 health facility MtMsG meetings are lead by and facilitated by lead mothers/support group facilitators. 11/30/2018

TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING 10 Nutrition staff have been trained on CMAM by the State Nutrition office. 24 Nutrition Staff and CHWs have been trained on IYCF in Dikwa and Staff in Banki and Ngala will be trained in the first week of March. 11/30/2018
