March 24th, 2015 You will need to pick up the following items: White boards Markers Please have out your warm-up papers and your homework out.

Warm-Up Write the 3 ratios for angle A. Find the measurement of angle A.

TRIG WORD PROBLEMS

1. A firefighter on the ground sees fire break through a window near the top of the building. There is voice contact between the ground and firefighters of the roof. The angle of elevation to the top of building is 42°. The firefighter is 75ft from the building and her eyes are 5ft above the ground. What roof-to- windowsill distance can she report to the firefighters on the roof?

2. Meteorology: One method that meteorologist could use to find the height of a layer of clouds above the ground is to shine a bright spotlight directly up onto the cloud layer and measure the angle of elevation from a known distance away. Find the height of the cloud layer in the diagram to the nearest 10m.

3. A 60ft high lighthouse stands on top of a cliff 3. A 60ft high lighthouse stands on top of a cliff. The angles of elevation to the bottom and top of lighthouse measure 39 and 43, respectively. Find the distance of the boat from the base of cliff.

4. Use the Picture below to answer the questions: a. A navigator at A observes the measure of the angle of elevations to the top of the cliff to be 15°. This measure changes to 26° at B. If the height of the cliff is known to be 750 m, how far has the boat moved to get from point A to point B?   b. Write the formula for AB in terms of m < 1, m < 2 and h. c. If the distance AB= 1,500m, m < 1=19°, and m < 2 = 28°, how high is the cliff?

5. A building 200ft tall casts a 155-ft shadow 5. A building 200ft tall casts a 155-ft shadow. Find the angle of elevation of the sum.

6. A 20ft ladder is leaning against a wall 6. A 20ft ladder is leaning against a wall. The foot of the ladder forms an angle of measure 65° with the ground. How far, to the nearest foot, is the top of the ladder from the ground?

7. A tree 50ft high cast a 35ft shadow 7. A tree 50ft high cast a 35ft shadow. Find, to nearest degree, the measure of the angle of elevation of the sum.

8. A plane is flying over level ground at an altitude of 900m 8. A plane is flying over level ground at an altitude of 900m. When the pilot sights a landing field, the measure of the angle of depression is 27°. Find the distance, to the nearest meter, from the point on the ground directly under pilot to the landing field.
