Objectives STAR Integrated Calibration/Validation System (ICVS) provides NOAA operational satellite spacecraft and onboard instruments near real time and long term health status/performance monitoring and data product quality trending NOAA ICVS provides the following services Monitors over 400 parameters for 31 instruments/spacecraft onboard NOAA/METOP/SNPP satellites Monitors and trends the NOAA20/SNPP spacecraft parameters , supporting NASA flight team Monitors the instrument performance through trending the instrument house-keeping and telemetry parameters including ATMS, CrIS, VIIRS, OMPS, AMSU-A, MHS, AVHRR, and HIRS Detects the anomaly events and automatically sends the warning messages to NOAA satellite operators, NASA instrument scientists, and senior program managers Characterizes the SDR sounding data quality with respect to the numerical weather prediction model (NWP) simulations Provides NWP users and remote sensing communities on the instrument noises for their real- time applications (e.g. error covariance in data assimilation) 6160 all instrument status and data quality trending figures generated in near real time

ICVS System Structure

ICVS Primary Users NOAA STAR ICVS are now providing more parameters for applications by broader communities including NWP. It is a very powerful tool and should be set up as a gold standard for all the space agencies to follow in satellite instrument monitoring and trending - Stephen English (ECMWF DA Head)
