Objectives To establish a joint domain for training and education for the SSH infrastructures. To inspire researchers and developers to come up with new research methodologies and approaches using research infrastructures. To discuss and feedback with researchers in all SSH domains about the role of data infrastructures in research methodologies.

Description Leader: University of Göttingen Resources: 56 PMs Task 1: Training Modules This task develops a matrix of training modules. Topics and materials for the modules will be taken from (a) experiences within the domains of the participating SSH ESFRIs, as well as (b) the findings of the work packages WP2-WP6. Task 2: Workshop Programme This task gives a series of training workshops, domain-specific as well as cross-domain.

DASISH consortium meeting The state at the moment Training modules on data management topics of interest to broad SSH audience 2 available, 3 under development Workshops community-specific or cross-discipline past/future topics: Access Policies and Licensing, AAI, Data Quality, ... DASISH consortium meeting Munich, 30.01.2013

Online Training modules Goal: Supporting SSH ESFRI projects in providing collaboratively built & reviewed training material adapting standardized material specifically for their communities avoiding parallel work and duplicate efforts propagating personal exchange and re-use of material among ESFRIs offer accompanying material for workshops & seminars Published and managed through ESS Edunet OpenCMS-based system Hosted by Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD) Contents from various sources, referenced also for further reading DASISH consortium meeting Munich, 30.01.2013

DASISH Online Training Module Topic: Access Policies and Licensing First module of a series on data management related topics: Access Policies and Licensing Authentication and Authorization Infrastructures (AAI) Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) Metadata ... Intended for adaptation by ESFRI projects in Social Sciences and Humanities IASSIST workshop Cologne, 28.05.2013

DASISH Online Training Module Why more material? If I want to know something about licenses: I use Google I read Wikipedia I ask my colleagues I write an email to my CESSDA /CLARIN/DARIAH/ESS/SHARE contact person I buy myself a book Our goals: Supporting SSH ESFRI projects in providing collaboratively built & reviewed training material adapting standardized material specifically for their communities avoiding parallel work and duplicate efforts propagating personal exchange and re-use of material among ESFRIs offer accompanying material for workshops & seminars material on relevant, cross-community topics (data management, digital methodology) IASSIST workshop Cologne, 28.05.2013

DASISH Online Training Module Module is published and managed through ESS Edunet OpenCMS-based system Hosted by Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD) Contains information from various sources, referenced also for further reading

DASISH Online Training Module Basic structure: Chapter 1: Sharing and licensing research data Chapter 2: Overview of European IPR Chapter 3: Comparing existing license schemes Chapter 4: Data submission and agreements Chapter 5: Secure data services Chapter 6: Embargo policies Chapter 7: Facilitating data re-use Exercises Glossary Chapter 1: Sharing and licensing research data Motivation & introduction into the topic Chapter 2: Overview of European IPR Presentation of the concept of intellectual property rights and copyright, and national differences Chapter 3: Comparing existing license schemes Description and comparison of some example license schemes from social sciences and humanities Chapter 4: Data submission and agreements Discussion of effects of data sharing issues on creating, submitting and preserving data Chapter 5: Secure data services Description of implications of sensitive data, and of current technical and logical measures to address these problems Chapter 6: Embargo policies Excursus on embargos as separate aspect of restricting access Chapter 7: Facilitating data re-use Discussion of aspects for archives/repositories to support researchers in making data accessible and re-usable IASSIST workshop Cologne, 28.05.2013

DASISH Online Training Module Chapter structure: Introductory page with questions addressed / relevant topics 4-8 pages per chapter, including examples, further reading link lists cross-references between chapters References and sources displayed as hover-over links More detailed explanations available via extendible boxes. IASSIST workshop Cologne, 28.05.2013

DASISH Online Training Module Modules currently under development: Authentication and Authorization Infrastructures (AAI) Introduction of goals, terms and actors Explanation of Federated Identity Management: functions & examples Technical challenges & approaches: Shibboleth, OpenID, Authorisation, ... Examples of currently implemented AAI systems Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) Introduction of goals, actors, usage Description & comparison of widely used services Example projects or institutions for PID services in use Process description of receiving a PID Technical challenges of persistence IASSIST workshop Cologne, 28.05.2013

DASISH consortium meeting DASISH Workshops on „Access Policies and Licensing“ @ IASSIST 2013 representatives from all 5 european SSH ESFRIs presented Policy/License issues presentation of DASISH training module best-attended pre-conference workshop at IASSIST: 23 participants on „Access and Authentication Infrastructures“ @ GESIS in October 2013 (co-organized with DARIAH-EU) 2-day workshop first day on technical details/implementation (SAML/Shibboleth): 26 participants second day on (inter-)federation building: 18 participants participants from 4 ESFRIs and related projects (CENDARI, EHRI) evaluation very positive, requests for follow-up workshop(s) DASISH consortium meeting Munich, 30.01.2013

Future Training & Education measures Training modules under development PIDs Metadata quality Upcoming workshops Trustworthiness & Certification for repositories Data Quality Tools & Services registry DASISH consortium meeting Munich, 30.01.2013

General T&E issues to be addressed Data management: many overlapping topics between diverse communities need to be identified, specific differences need to be addressed required efforts suggest much stronger collaboration exchange of templates, material, methodologies to increase efficiency increased outreach and effectiveness curricula for data management only just evolving:  support for T&E mostly ends with project ESFRIs could provide longer-lasting availability, maintenance, timeliness DASISH consortium meeting Munich, 30.01.2013

Outlook Workshop on further cooperation of training experts within the 5 SSH ESFRIs Objectives Initial exchange on current status and challenges regarding Training and Education measures in the ESFRIs Discussion of benefits and possibilities of cross-ESFRI cooperation on Training and Education

Thank you for your attention!
