Attracting Support for Specific Programs

What do we mean by attracting support for specific programs? Having others run the program Having someone else provide funding or resources for the program Having someone else house the program

Why attract support for specific programs? To make a program permanent To get support unlikely sources To make a limited-time program last longer To become less dependent on any one source of support To raise support for the whole organization

When should you attract support for a specific program? Throughout the life of the program When the program isn't something your group plans to continue doing When the program was the result of a "one-time" grant

Whom should you try to attract support from? Civic organizations Governmental officials or bodies Other social service or public health agencies Key community influentials Foundations and other grantmakers

How do you attract support for specific programs? Decide what program you want to attract support for. Decide what kind of support you want to look for. Decide who is most likely to provide that support. Come up with a specific written request for the support. Follow up: Make yourself available for any questions. Contact the potential supporter for their decision. Be ready to help them begin.

General tips in attracting and keeping support: Be helpful to others. Thank supporters publicly. Stay informed about client populations, new service opportunities, and the community as a whole. Give supporters lots of feedback about their efforts. Show that your program is needed and effective.
