Content Preparation of the provisional draft of IRES for a worldwide consultation (IRES, ver.1) The second meeting of the ad hoc United Nations Expert Group on Energy Statistics and submission of the final draft of IRES to the UNSC Work on Energy Statistics Compilers Manual

I. Preparation of the provisional draft IRES for a worldwide consultation (IRES, ver.1) Conclusions of OG5 by the end of February 2010 The OG additional inputs by mid April 2010 as well as inputs form LG and UNEG on classifications UNSD prepares IRES, version 1, by mid June 2010 and makes it available to OG for review UNSD finalizes IRES, version 1, by the end of June.

Organization of the worldwide consultation IRES, version 1 will be made available on the UNSD website and sent to national statistical offices and energy agencies/ministries and relevant international organizations for comments on 1 July 2010. Comments will be requested by 1 September 2010; reminder will be sent on 2 September with a deadline for comments by 15 September. UNSD will create a database of country comments and make it available to the OG and InterEnerStat early in October 2010; a summary report will be prepared by UNSD (will be placed on the web).

II. The second meeting of the ad hoc UN Expert Group on Energy Statistics and submission of the final draft of IRES to the UNSC The second meeting of the UNEG on Energy Statistics will be held (tentatively) early in November 2010 in New York to review the results of the worldwide consultation, amend and endorse draft IRES for the submission to the 42nd session of the UN Statistical Commission (to be held in February 2011) <The first meeting of the ad hoc UNEG on Energy Statistics was conducted in 2005>

UNSD will fund participants from developing countries. Cont. 3. The UNEG on energy statistics will consist of the country experts (NSO and Energy agencies/ministries) as well as of the representatives of the interested international organizations. UNSD will fund participants from developing countries. Members of OG are invited to indicate their interest in the participation in the EG meeting.

UNSD will finalize draft IRES on the basis of the EG conclusions. Cont. UNSD will finalize draft IRES on the basis of the EG conclusions. The final draft IRES will be submitted to the 42nd session of the Commission early in January 2011. The Commission will review the draft and, hopefully, adopt it. UNSD will incorporate the Commissions comments and submit IRES for translation and printing in April 2011.

IV. Work on Energy Statistics Compilers Manual Collection of country materials on good practices in support of IRES (February-September 2010 – Oslo Group secretariat). Review of the collected materials by the UNEG on energy statistics (November 2010) and discuss a tentative outline of ESCM. UNSD will submit an outline of ESCM to OG6 (Q2, 2011 – timing of OG6 is important) and work plan for the preparation of the first version of ESCM by the end of 2012. ESCM can be prepared on time only with the active participation of the Oslo Group members !
