ACTIVE READING STRATEGIES Good readers are like DETECTIVES; they get involved, find clues, ask questions and make educated guesses.

Good readers find something in the story they can relate to. 1. MAKE CONNECTIONS Good readers find something in the story they can relate to.

Good readers try to picture what is happening in the story. 2. VISUALIZE Good readers try to picture what is happening in the story.

Good readers pause to ask questions about the story.

4. REFLECT Good readers pause to think about what has already happened in the story.

5. MAKE INFERENCES I bet the cat did it. She has no alibi. Good readers use what they already know to guess what will happen later.
