LO To assess my understanding of number skills RAG Key Words: Reflect, Communicate, Explain, Justify 23/11/2018 Starter Activity Complete the ‘Heard the Word Grid.’ Are there any key words that you have learnt or have a better understanding of now than you did at the start of this unit of work?

Integer Product Negative Number Decimal Number Standard Form Key Words / Methods Never heard before? Heard of but not sure what it means? Know what it means and can explain it in context Jot down your ideas here... Integer Product Negative Number Decimal Number Standard Form

I am starting this unit of work ……………………………………….   Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6  Number Calculations I can add and subtract three digit whole numbers using written methods. I can multiply and divide whole numbers by 10. I can multiply and divide two digit numbers by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10. When given a number sentence, I can create related sentences, e.g. If I know that 14 x 5 = 70, I also know that 5 x 14 = 70 and 70 ÷ 5 = 14 etc. I can carry out simple calculations involving negative numbers. I can add and subtract three (or more) digit numbers, including decimals, using a written method. I can multiply and divide whole numbers by 10 or 100.    I can multiply a simple decimal by a single digit. I can multiply two digit whole numbers by a single digit whole number. I can divide by a single digit number. I can multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. I can multiply and divide any three -digit number by any two-digit number. I can order, add, subtract, multiply and divide negative numbers.  I can carry out multiplications and divisions involving decimal numbers. Level 7 I can make and justify estimates and approximations of calculations, rounding to one significant figure. I understand and can use Standard Form. I am starting this unit of work ……………………………………….

Level 3 Questions Show me how you would work out ….. 276 + 324 Write an addition question which has an answer of 824. 6 x 2 = 3 x 8 = 5 x 9 = 5 x 4 = 20 Write a different multiplication question which also has an answer of 20

Level 3 Questions 3 x 10 = 17 x 10 = …… x 10 = 240 24 ÷ 4 = 27 ÷ 3 = Show me how you would work out ….. 806 – 293 70 ÷ 10 = 230 ÷ 10 = 2560 ÷ 10 =

Level 4 Questions Show me how you would work out….. 76.56 + 312.2 + 5.07 671.7 - 60.2 Complete these statements :- 4 x 10 = 4 x……. = 400 …….÷ 10 = 40 …….x 100 = 40 000 ……..x 10 = 400 Convince me that the 37 x 6 = 222

Level 4 Questions Show me how you would work out 324 ÷ 3 Find and correct the mistake… 12.3 + 9.8 21.11 The temperatures in three towns on January 1st were: Apton -5°C Barntown 2°C Camtown -1°C a) Which town was the coldest? b) Which town was the warmest? c) What was the difference in temperature between the warmest and coldest towns? a) b) c)

Answer these questions a) 3 x - 4 = b) - 6 x 7 = c) - 2 x - 9 = Level 5 Questions Answer these questions a) 3 x - 4 = b) - 6 x 7 = c) - 2 x - 9 = Show me how you could work out….. 348 × 27 317 people are going on a school coach trip. Each coach will hold 28 passengers. How many coaches are needed? You must show all your working out. 2.4 x 7

Level 5 Questions Answer these questions a) 32 ÷ - 4 = b) - 56 ÷ 7 = c) - 21 ÷ - 3 = Complete these statements :- 0.4 x 10 = 0.4 x ……. = 400 2.3 ÷ 10 = ……… ……. ÷ 1000 = 5.7 Write two multiplication questions which would have an answer of -7. Write two division questions which would have an answer of -5.

Level 6 Questions Show me how you would work out 23.2 x 3.4 = True or False? 1.6 ÷ 0.2 = 8 Explain your answer. 28.8 ÷ 0.12 =

Level 7 Questions ‘Multiplying makes numbers bigger.’ When is this statement true and when is it false? ‘Dividing makes numbers smaller.’ When is it useful to use standard form. Write 9 000 000 000 in standard form. Write 3240000000 in standard form.

Use the learning journey above to highlight the mathematical skills that you have now which you didn’t have at the start of the unit of work. How much progress have you made? What can you do to improve your skills as a learner in order to make even better progress?
