Creepy Crawly Classification

Creepy Crawly Classification Learning Objectives List the main features used in the classification of the following groups: Arthropods Insects Crustaceans Aarachnids myriapods Non Arthropods annelids, nematodes molluscs

The Arthropods

Arthropods ____________ are the largest group of ______________ INVERTEBRATES They have ____, a hard outside __________ (called an EXOSKELETON) and segments. LEGS SKELETON

Arachnids Body in two parts Eight legs

Crustaceans Chalky shells 10 – 14 legs

Body in three parts – HEAD, THORAX and ABDOMEN Six legs

Centipedes and Millipedes Long thin segmented bodies Many legs

Looking at Specimens How many legs does it have? How many parts does its’ body have? Which group does it belong to? Draw a diagram of your animal – show it’s legs, antennae, parts of its body, etc.

Nematodes Nematodes are worms, but unlike annelids their bodies are not divided into segments. They are usually white, long and thin. They live in many different habitats.

Molluscs Molluscs are soft-bodies animals, sometimes with a shell (snails) or without (slugs).
