Adaptive Control of Sensing Thresholds 2006 March Adaptive Control of Sensing Thresholds Authors: IEEE P802.22 Wireless RANs Date: 2006-07-14 Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE 802.22. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE 802.22. Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures http://standards.ieee.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair Carl R. Stevenson as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.22 Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at patcom@iee.org. > Huawei

SENSING IN WRAN SYSTEMS To make detections more efficiently and precisely, data fusion should be used, i.e. all detection results should be fed back to the BS. Then using these results and the local detection of the BS, final judgment can be made using some algorithms of data fusion. Huawei

2006 March BACKGROUND In practical systems the following four cases can be considered for signal environments for sensing: Relative locations of CPEs to an LU system are different Some receive stronger signals while others receive weaker signals Different CPEs have different geographical environments In door environments, outside open, etc. Different CPEs have different physical and technical performances Some have better sensors while others have worse sensors Different CPEs have different external interference/noise environments Sometimes more background noise or interference exists. Each CPE have different environment for interference/signal detection. sensing threshold for each sensor can be adaptively adjusted or controlled. Huawei

Rule of modifying sensing threshold HUAWEI PROPOSAL Thresholds can be modified adaptively in an acceptable range. Rule of modifying sensing threshold Sensing judgment of whole WRAN Fast sensing detection result of CPE Modification of threshold at CPE Interference exist No modification No interference Decrease threshold in an acceptable range Increase threshold in an acceptable range Huawei

CHS-REQ MESSAGE FORMAT PROPOSED Add cause of switching in CHS-REQ message Syntax Size Notes CHS-REQ_Message_Format() { Cause 8 bits Bit0=1: DTV detected, channel switch needed; Bit1=1: Part 74detected, channel switch needed; Bit2=1: for DFH requirement, channel switch needed; Other bits: reserved } Huawei

CONCLUSION The influence of different level of detection capability for each CPE can be avoided. Simple implementation Simple modification is needed. Huawei
