Motivational Gifts

Motivation

The reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way A strong influence to accomplish something The general desire or willingness of someone to do something Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Motivation

Prophecy: to receive and communicate an immediate message of God to His people through a divinely-anointed utterance (Communication gift) comfort, encourage, guide, warn, or rebuke Only gift mentioned in all 3 lists as motivational, manifesting, and office Romans 12:3-8

Prophecy: Acts 21:10-11 10 After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11 Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’” Romans 12:3-8

Prophecy: Acts 15:32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 1 Corinthians 14:32 Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns. Use it! Prophesy! According to your measure of faith Romans 12:3-8

Serving: to meet the needs involved in a task related to God’s work; to help in the life and ministry of other members of the Body, enabling them to increase the effectiveness of their own spiritual gifts; doing for others (Practical gift) Romans 12:3-8

Serving: Acts 6:1-7 1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, Romans 12:3-8

Serving: Acts 6:1-7 “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them…” 7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased… Romans 12:3-8

Teaching: to communicate information relevant to the health and ministry of the body and its members in such a way that others will learn; to explain God’s word, truth from error, to whomever (Communication gift) can be one-on- one, in a group, or to an assembly Acts 18:24-28 Romans 12:3-8

Encouragement/Exhortation: to minister words of comfort, consolation, urging, encouragement, and counsel to others in such a way that they feel helped and healed (Communication gift) as are prophecy and teaching Romans 12:3-8

Romans 12:3-8 Encouragement/Exhortation: Prophecy focuses purely on the message or truth to be communicated. Teaching focuses on bringing thorough or adequate understanding of the message or truth being communicated. Exhortation focuses on personal and practical application of the message or truth being communicated. Romans 12:3-8

Romans 12:3-8 Encouragement/Exhortation: Acts 14:21-22 21 They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. Romans 12:3-8

Giving: to contribute material resources to the work of the Lord with liberality and cheerfulness (Practical gift) While all Christians should practice the discipline and grace of giving, this gift provides a heightened desire and the effective exercise of giving Macedonian church (2 Cor 8:1-7) Romans 12:3-8

Leadership: to set goals and communicate to others in such a way that they follow and harmoniously work together to accomplish those goals for the glory of God; to govern (Practical and communication gift) Hebrews 13:17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account… Romans 12:3-8

Mercy: to feel genuine empathy and compassion for individuals who suffer distressing physical, mental, or emotional problems, and to translate that compassion into cheerfully visiting and assisting those in need (Practical gift) Romans 12:3-8 Mark 9:41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.

Your love for people needs to be genuine and why you minister with your gifts. These are things that you need to do regardless of your gifting Romans 12:9-13

Hospitality: to provide an open house to those in need of food and lodging; an acute awareness of visitors with a desire to make all people feel welcome (Practical gift) Levi (Luke 5:27-32) Romans 12:9-13

People. Relationships. Romans 12:14-18
