Why is the battle of Loos called a Scottish battle?

In September 1915, 35,000 Scots took part in the attack at Loos. Battalions from every Scottish regiment took part. Half of the 72 battalions that took part had Scottish names. Out of the 21,000 dead over 7,000 were Scottish.

One long term result.. Sir John French was replaced as commander of the BEF. Haig was in charge of the 1st Army and was not happy about attacking at Loos. Kitchener overuled Haig but after the battle Haig wrote a letter stating his reservations. Haig blamed French stating he was slow in sending the reserves after the initial success.
