Sources of air pollutant Tobacco Constructors Manufacturers

Tobacco Tobacco smoke acts in a synergistic manner with asbestos exposure. It increases the chance for lung cancer.

Constructors Over 20% of public buildings have asbestos fibers in them. The asbestos fibers were used in thermal system insulation, floor and ceiling tiles, shingles, and other items used for buildings.

Manufacturers Asbestos fibers were found in objects commonly found in our homes. Like fireplace gloves, hairdryers, and ironing board covers.

Asbestos is an indoor air pollutant Asbestos is an indoor air pollutant. Asbestos is found in the materials that are indoors. It is air pollution that you can find that come from inside your homes.

Asbestos is a primary air pollutant Asbestos is a primary air pollutant. It is primary because it is directly released into the atmosphere.

Human health effects Asbestos fibers are easily inhaled and are carried through the lungs and can cause fibrotic lung disease. Asbestos fibers can also change the lining in the chest cavity, which is called pleura.

Environmental effect Asbestos fibers can easily travel through the air and into the water supply.

To prevent asbestos from getting into our air you should leave all undamaged asbestos materials alone, if they are not harmed the fibers won’t harm you; call trained contractors for measuring asbestos levels in buildings; and follow proper procedures when removing asbestos materials.
