Hoar Frost Morning. A grove of trees covered with white hoar frost crystals reminds us that winter is not far behind. Hoar frost forms from water vapor evaporated from liquid droplets suspended in air, when the air is moist and surfaces are cold. This stunning phenomenon is often seen on cold, clear autumn nights. © Gordon Giesbrecht, PhD, Manitoba, Canada.
