Physical and Chemical Changes

Physical Changes Alter the physical properties of a substance DOES NOT change the identity of the substance

A physical change does not produce a new substance. Many physical changes can be reversed

Physical Change

Chemical Changes Substance is changed into a new substance with different properties. The identity of the substance IS changed. A reaction takes place creating a new substance.

Unlike a physical change… Chemical changes are very difficult or impossible to reverse

Heat or Light is given off.

A new odor is made.
