ALBINISM By: Melissa H

~What is the genetic cause of this~ ~disorder?~ Albinism genetically through specific mutations along the melanin pathway. It has defect in the "P" gene. Albinism results when the body is unable to produce or distribute pigment.

*~Recessive or Dominant~* Albinism is a recessive trait which will result in A lack of pigmentation in the skin eyes and hair. It occurs about 1 in every 17,000 people in the U.S.

How often dose it occur? It occurs about 1 in every 17,000 people in the U.S.

Male or Females Males and females can be affected while females are only carriers. So its women that get it more.

!!What race!! Albinism affects all races. Parents of most children with albinism have normal eye color for their ethnic background.

The symptoms Easy bruising. Frequent nosebleeds. Bleeding after surgery or dental work.

Can they detect it before birth? Yes they can All types of albinism are usually congenital-something you’re born with.

Sex linked or autosomal It is autosomal.

Animals that have it
