Trigonometry Welcome to Camp SOH-CAH-TOA Trig Ratios to solve right triangles

Sine (abbreviated as Sin) Cosine (abbreviated as Cos) Trigonometry Ratios Sine (abbreviated as Sin) Cosine (abbreviated as Cos) Tangent (abbreviated as Tan)

Used to find angles or missing sides of right triangles “SOH” “CAH” “TOA”

A 13 12 B 5 C Sin A = the side opposite angle A hypotenuse Cos A = the side adjacent to angle A Tan A = the side opposite to angle A the side adjacent angle A We can also find the sin, cos and tan of angle B. We NEVER use sin, cos, or tan of the right angle (try this on your calculator & you’ll see why)

Use the Trig Ratio Slides to answer the following questions Use the Trig Ratio Slides to answer the following questions. Put the letter of the correct answer in the blank. Trig Ratios #1 SinA _____ CosB_____ SinB _____ Tan A _____ Tan B _____ Trig Ratios #2 Tan A ____ Cos C ____ SinB _____ Cos A _____ Tan B ______

Trigonometry Ratios #1 12 13 5 A C B A) C) D) B) E) None of the above

Trigonometry Ratios #2 C 8 B A) C) 6 D) B) 10 E) None of the above A

To use a calculator… first be sure your calculator is in “degree” mode Angle decimal Use the sin, cos, tan keys on your calculator Ex. Sin 65= ______ Type sin, 65, enter Round the decimal to 4 places Decimal angle Use sin-1, cos-1, or tan-1 You need to use the 2nd key here. Ex. Cos A = .2493 Type 2nd, cos, .2493, enter Round degrees to the nearest tenth.

Calculator Practice Use a calculator to find each value. Round to the nearest ten-thousandths. sin 92.4 = tan 27.5 = cos 64.8 = Find the measure of the angle to the nearest tenth of a degree. sin B = 0.7823 angle = tan A = 0.2356 angle = cos R = 0.6401 angle =
