September 2005 4.1 Introduction This clause is informative, and lays the framework for the use of the metrics, environments and methodologies defined in the remainder of this standard. Each of the metrics in the rest of this standard will reference one or more of the user cases listed in this clause. Each of the use cases in this clause will, in turn, list the metrics that are relevant to measuring the performance of devices and systems when used in the corresponding applications. The purpose of providing these linkages is twofold: a) The information in this clause will enable readers of this standard to relate their specific use cases to the metrics that pertain to their needs and applications. b) Users reading specific metrics will obtain a clear understanding of the use case(s) to which each metric pertains. 4.2 Use cases September 2005 4.2.1 General Three principal use cases are covered by this standard, as follows: a) Data oriented use case. b) Streaming media use case. c) Latency sensitive use case. 4.2.2 Data oriented use case The following table lists the metrics relevant to the data oriented use case. 4.3 Example usage profiles September 2005 4.3 Example usage profiles 4.2.1 General Examples of typical application scenarios pertaining to the three different use cases described in 4.2 are provided here. For each example, the metrics that would impact the application performance in a user scenario are listed. Performing the test procedures referenced in the descriptions of these metrics (given in the remainder of this standard) should therefore give the user of this standard a good understanding of how a particular device would perform in the user’s application environment.
