Philippians 2:12-18 The Life of a Star

Philippians 2:12-18 “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-- not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-- continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Philippians 2:12-18 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16 as you hold out the word of life-- in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.”

Stars Shine We are the light of the world. Focus on your faith. “continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” Philippians 2:12

Stars Shine We are the light of the world. Focus on your faith. Give God credit for his work in us. “continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:12-13

Stars are Steady Our lights shine through obedience. Complaining and arguing makes us dim. “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-- not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-” Philippians 2:12

A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. They have acted corruptly toward him; to their shame they are no longer his children, but a crooked and depraved generation.”

Stars are Steady Our lights shine through obedience. Complaining and arguing makes us dim. “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation” Philippians 2:14-15

Complaining and arguing makes us dim. “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

Stars are Steady Our lights shine through obedience. Complaining and arguing makes us dim. We shine brightest through sacrifice. “even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith” Philippians 2:17

Stars Guide the Way Our world lacks direction. We are the word of God to our world. “you shine like stars in the universe 16 as you hold out the word of life-- ” Philippians 2:15-16

Stars Guide the Way Our world lacks direction. We are the word of God to our world. The result is greater praise of God. Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. . . let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Challenge: Spiritual life depends on shining stars.
