Theory of Evolution

Explain what is happening.

Explain what is happening. Relate this concept to anti-bacterial soaps.

Before Darwin – Jean Baptiste Lamarck

Darwin’s Theory

Darwin’s Finches Darwin Collected finches from the Galapagos islands. Darwin predicted that all 9 finches came from a single finch.

David Lack In 1938 David Lack observed the finches for 5 months during the wet season and found no evidence for Darwin’s theory. All finches were feeding on similar seeds.

What is this graph telling us?

Peter and Rosemary Grant In 1973, Peter and Rosemary Grant found that during the dry season birds with bigger beaks were more fit. Survival and starvation is a matter of eating the bigger seeds.

Evolution as a theory

As of 2009 only 39% of Americans believe in evolution. Evolution as a theory Darwin’s theory is not something that is disputed by scientists. It has withstood 150 years of examination. Inertia, gravity, relativity are all theories. As of 2009 only 39% of Americans believe in evolution.
