Presentation transcript:

Lessons from Isaiah Jesus Messiah The Gospel is a report from heaven. It was, in some degree, made known to the patriarchs, and afterwards more fully to the prophets, but "God has in these last days, spoken to us by His Son." J. Lathrop March 11, 2018

Jesus was born of a virgin named Mary (Luke 1:26-31) Will be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14) Jesus’ ministry began in Galilee of the Gentiles (Matthew 4:13-16) Will have a Galilean ministry (Isaiah 9:1,2) Was given the throne of His father David (Luke 1:32, 33) Will be an heir to the throne of David (Isaiah 9:7; 11:1, 10) The Spirit of God descended on Jesus (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; 4:1) God's Spirit will rest on Him (Isaiah 11:2

Applications How great a city fell due to negligence. How even a small task can have tremendous consequences. Faithfulness could have kept the city, but a slack hand led to its defeat. Double checking our work, or those we are responsible for could have prevented the defeat. Drunkenness and sin lead to failing to keep watch and defeat, etc. etc. etc.

Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

Isaiah 52:13-14 Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted. As many were astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—

Isaiah 52:15 so shall he sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand.

Isaiah 53:1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

Isaiah 53:2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

Isaiah 53:3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Romans 8:22-23 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Isaiah 53:3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.

Matthew 11:29-30 Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

For Our Consideration Do you know the Savior today? Do you believe Isaiah’s report? Jesus fulfilled every prophesy concerning the Messiah, what does that mean to you and your faith? Are you overwhelmed with sorrow, grief, guilt, shame, or sin today? Where will you find forgiveness, freedom and peace? Are you carrying a load that is not yours?

Prayer Focus Thank You Father for the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ Thank You for Your Word to lead and guide us into all truth Thank You for life and for another day to enjoy walking with You by faith
