Author: John Lived in Ephesus – 70 AD Wrote Gospel and 3 Epistles – 80 AD Exiled to Patmos – 94 AD Wrote Revelation – 96 AD Died natural death – 100 AD

Purpose of Gospels Matthew – Jesus as Messiah/King Mark/Luke – Jesus as Redeemer of all John – Jesus as Son of God

Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. - John 20:30-31

In the Gospel of John… The Word is almighty God God expresses Himself in the Word God and the Word are one

He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light. - John 1:8

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. - John 1:11

John makes 3 major points about Christ He brings people to the truth The world will reject Him The Jews will not accept Him

12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. - John 1:12-13

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. - John 1:14

God/Word → Word/Jesus → Jesus/Man Jesus = God/Man

John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” - John 1:15

For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. - John 1:16

For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. - John 1:17

No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. - John 1:18
