Say Bye to the Winter Vacation What word can you use to describe your winter vacation? What did you do in the winter vacation? What impressed you most?/ What was most unforgettable?

The Date of Chinese New Year The date of Chinese New Year is based on the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on the first day of the first lunar month.

Why Do People Celebrate Chinese New Year Although there are many interesting legends and stories explaining the start of the Chinese New Year festival, the main two reasons for the festival are: To celebrate a year of hard work, have a good rest, and gain a chance to have a family reunion; To wish for a lucky and prosperous coming year Chinese people believe that a good start to the year will lead to a lucky year.

How Do People celebrate Chinese New Year Chines families give their home a thorough cleaning just before the new year celebration. This tradition is founded in the belief that cleaning the house at this time of year will "sweep away the bad luck" or “ill fortune” that has accumulated inside over the past year. Cleaning also makes the house ready for the good luck to start entering again. Don't clean your home after the New Year has started. To do so is to "sweep away" the good luck you've just received. before Chinese New Year

◦ Paste paper cutouts onto the window. Chinese New Year Decorate the house: Red is the color or symbol of good luck in Chinese culture and is often used for new year decorations. ◦ Paste paper cutouts onto the window. ◦ Put a painting of "door god" on your door, which is said to be able to fight off evil spirits and bless your house. ◦ Put up couplets and paste the red Chinese character “福”, which means blessing, on the door. ◦ Hang red lanterns.

Chinese New Year People buy New Year food and snacks, new Year decorations, and clothes for New Year before New Year’s Eve. Chinese New Year, like Christmas in western countries, is a shopping boom time.

on the eve of Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year Enjoy the reunion dinner. The reunion dinner is usually held on the eve of the Chinese New year when members of the family, near and far, get together for the celebration. The reunion dinner is usually large and traditionally includes chicken and fish and is not eaten up completely, which means there will be surpluses every year. Before the reunion dinner, people will offer food to their ancestors.

on the eve of Chinese New Year Watch the Spring Festival Gala

Chinese New Year Spring Festival Gala is a variety show held by China Central Television (CCTV) since 1983. Every year since then at the turn of the Lunar New Year, the program begins at 8:00PM and lasts five or six hours. In the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, we can see wonderful shows and some Chinese traditions. Many Chinese would like to watch the gala while having the dinner on Chinese New Year’s Eve.The Gala can give people a lot of fun and laughter since all family members get together that night and enjoy the happy atmosphere while watching TV.

Chinese New Year Parents give children money in red envelops after the reunion dinner, wishing them health, growth, and good studies in the coming year. Money in red envelopes is believed to bring good luck, as red is China's lucky color, so it's called lucky money.

Chinese New Year People set off fireworks and firecrackers.

Happy Chinese New Year

What To Do At the Chinese New Year People go to temples to pray for good fortune. People visit their ancestors tombs to honor them. They light incense, burn spirit money (also known as hell money or heaven money) and set off fire crackers. People pay visits to relatives and friends and give best wishes to each other.

ways to change to celebrate Chinese New Year Nowadays, somthing has changed when we celebrate Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year Now—Modern CNY Activities Chinese New Year celebrations and activities are changing. Most young people prefer surfing the Internet, playing with smart phones, and sleepovers or spending time with friends to celebrating with their families.   Sending cell phone messages has become the main way to greet people on Chinese New Year's Eve these years. In the past people sent New Year cards or called each other to express their good wishes during the Spring Festival. Now more people use instant messages on WeChat (the most popular social media app in China, like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger in the West) to greet their friends.

Chinese New Year Now—Modern CNY Activities Exchanging App Red Envelopes — Top Thing for the Young Since 2015 App-sent/received "red envelopes" appeared in 2015, and they soon become the most popular New Year activity among the young. Many young people spend most of their 2015 New Year holiday time exchanging cyber money via red envelope apps for fun. Some people choose to travel abroad to spend the Spring Festival.
