Sermon

Imposition of ashes We are all born weak and helpless. All lead the same short, troubled life. We grow and wither as quickly as flowers; we disappear like shadows. In the midst of life we are in death.

To whom can we go for help, but to you, Lord God, though you are rightly displeased because of our sins? And yet, Lord God Almighty, most holy and most merciful Saviour, deliver us from the bitterness of eternal death.

You know the secrets of our hearts; mercifully hear us, most worthy judge eternal; keep us, at our last hour, in the consolation of your love. Amen. Dust we are and to dust we shall return. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

May these ashes be for us a sign of our mortality and penitence, and a reminder that we receive eternal life by God's gift alone, through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Prayer Response: Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

During the singing your freewill offerings will be received Hymn or song During the singing your freewill offerings will be received

Offering prayer Merciful God, you gave your Son to take our sin. Lead us to give ourselves and what we have for your service. Help us to discipline ourselves, so that we may show your care to those in need. Amen.

Preface The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna. Hosanna. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Lord’s prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Words of institution …as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. …may live as true members of the body of your Son. Amen. Come, Holy Spirit.

…until he comes as victorious Lord of all …until he comes as victorious Lord of all. Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

Peace The peace of the Lord be with you always. Amen.

Lamb of God Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace.

Communion invitation Every time we eat this bread and drink from this cup we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Thanks be to God. Come, everything is ready.
