Why Some Leave

Pressure from the World & Media In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. 1 Peter 4:4

To Enjoy a Life of Various Sins By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, Hebrews 11:24-25

To Commit Fornication Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews 13:4

Why the Son Left Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, “Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. Luke 15:11-13

Why the Son Left But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’ Luke 15:30

Ways to Come Home

Humble Yourself Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:10

Humble Yourself Deliver me out of the mire, And let me not sink… Psalms 69:14a

Humble Yourself “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! Luke 15:17

Repent 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

Repent 8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, Colossians 3:5-10

Repent 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’20 “And he arose and came to his father… Luke 15:18-20a

Repent For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 1 Peter 4:3

Determine to Follow God For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, Titus 2:11-12

Lessons For Us Today

Change Begins with a Humble Attitude Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Change Begins with a Humble Attitude For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks. Psalms 18:27

Lasting Change Begins with a Fear of God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

The Forgiveness Provided by the Father “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

The Forgiveness Provided by the Father 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry. Luke 15:20-24

Conclusion God desires all to come home. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

Conclusion God desires all to come home. Are you ready to come home to the Father? “….How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! Luke 13:34b
