Sex and Dating Goals for Learning

As we begin our new unit on all the decisions a person may make in regards to dating and sex, you should consider what your personal learning goals are. Which of the following topics covered in this unit are important to you to learn more about? You could have a couple goals that you want to say you have achieved or you could be interested in learning about all of the topics. Everyone has had different experiences and will want to indicate their own personal learning goals.

Finding out what characteristics I am looking for in a boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/spouse. Understanding the difference between infatuation and love. Learning how to know which I am experiencing. Understanding that relationships go through stages and knowing how to identify which of the three stages I am in.

To know what the “red flags” are and when I may want to consider ending a relationship. Understanding the difference between a functional and a dysfunctional relationship. Knowing how to get out of an abusive relationship.

Learning tips on how to make a relationship happy and lasting.   Learning how to have intimacy in a relationship without sexual activity. Make decisions on your sexual boundaries: what is your plan?

Learn about choosing abstinence. Learn about the risks associated with substance use and sexual decision making.   Learn the myths and facts about birth control and sexually transmitted infections.

Learn about all the different methods available to prevent pregnancy. Learn about how to stay safe and protected from STI’s and HIV when sexually active. Learn about the realities of becoming a parent while you are a teenager.
